Designing with Plugs
Deep root plug
Designing with Plugs
This area was a dust bowl. Dry shade. Bare soil. Very little ecological value.
Instead of forcing turf or relying on large container plants, I planted the slope densely with plugs.
That choice matters. Plugs allow you to build coverage quickly and establish a true ground layer. The result is stronger root density, better soil structure, and far less space for weeds to take hold.
Within a few seasons the grid disappears. The plants knit together, stabilize the slope, and function like a woodland floor.
Small plants. Tight spacing. Real ecological value.
